Proposal No. R2017–86, Authorizes Hiring a 9th Court Commissioner A Resolution of the Pierce County Council Accepting the Presentation from Superior Court to the Public Safety, Human Services, and Budget Committee; and Authorizing the Hiring of a 9th Court Commissioner.

Sponsored by: Councilmembers Dan Roach, Connie Ladenburg and Derek Young

Last year Superior Court proposed the addition of an additional court commissioner that would be focused on domestic violence. Despite the creation of the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center, and partnership with the Pierce County YWCA, domestic violence rates remain unacceptably high.

The position will be paid for with court filing fees.

10:00am Growth Management Policy Board

Regional Centers Framework Update

Paul Inghram and Liz Underwood-Bultmann, PSRC

This has been topic of discussion for the last year. Regional centers are areas that are targeted for growth and transportation investments. The policy board is looking at potential changes in the rules that govern centers. There’s quite a bit of disagreement between King & the other three counties on how to proceed. I have advocated a delay of any decision until we update our regional growth plan.

3:00pm Tacoma Pierce County Board of Health Meeting

Resolution №2017–4526 — Authorization to amend Resolution №2006–3897 — the Rules of Procedure of The Tacoma-Pierce County Board of Health, Rule 2. Meetings, which would permit the Board to hear scheduled presentations and comments from the public without a quorum present. Action items would still require a quorum.

Cindan Gizzi, Community Assessment Manager

This would allow the BOH to receive a presentation, but not take any action, when there’s lack of a quorum. Currently when there have been schedule conflicts, it’s caused whole meetings to be cancelled, sometimes on short notice.

Emergency Preparedness Awareness Month

Nigel Turner, Communicable Disease Division Director

The recent disaster in Texas serves as a reminder the vital role local public health departments play in emergency response. As part of Emergency Preparedness Awareness Month we’ll have a presentation on TPCHD’s efforts.

Friday, SEPTEMBER 8th, 2017

My Weekly Calendar

Earlier this year we got a request for my forward looking calendar. Rather than have staff waste their time on public record requests, I’m just going to start publishing screen shots. Keep in mind, my schedule isn’t static. Things will get added, deleted, changed, etc. There are conflicts that I have to pick between. But if people want to see where I’m at and who I meet with, that’s fine by me.
