Proposal №2018–48, Speed Limits An Ordinance of the Pierce County Council Amending Ordinance №2010–36, Making Applicable Revisions to the Maximum Speed Limits of County Roads and Directing the County Engineer to Properly Implement the Maximum Speed Limits Through the Use of Appropriate Traffic Control Devices; and Setting an Effective Date.

The Peninsula School District has requested to have established several school speed zones (20 mph) within their district, adjacent to Voyager Elementary, Vaughn Elementary, and Kopachuck Middle School. The Puyallup Tribe has requested one at Chief Leschi. This bill would adopt those changes.

Proposal No. R2018–91, Homeless Empowerment Labor Program A Resolution of the Pierce County Council Related to the Homeless Empowerment Labor Program Finding that the Human Service Department Has Complied with a Proviso in the 2018 Budget; and Authorizing the Expenditure of Funds to Implement the Homeless Empowerment Labor Program.

The HELP program is essentially a way for people to get back on their feet and connecting them to services while giving them a chance to earn some money. Albuquerque, New Mexico started a similar program and has found success.
Of course, it won’t work for everyone. Many experiencing homelessness have disabilities or are suffering from behavioral health disorders. But for people looking for another chance, this seems like something worth trying.
The bill is scheduled final passage.
My Weekly Calendar
Last year we got a request for my forward looking calendar. Rather than have staff waste their time on public record requests, I decided to publish screenshots. If you have questions, feel free to call. Keep in mind, my schedule isn’t static. Things will get added, deleted, changed, etc. There are conflicts that I have to pick between. But if people want to see where I’m at and who I meet with, that’s fine by me.
